Huron Perth Fall Season Cancelled

Huron Perth Athletics

As we continue to cope in these challenging times with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is with great disappointment that we announce today the cancellation 2020 fall Huron Perth competitions and championships.

On behalf of the Huron Perth Athletic Association and all of our staff, we are thankful for the commitment and passion of all student-athletes, coaches, convenors and volunteers for their work.

As we endure this uncertain coronavirus health crisis, the Huron Perth Athletic Association will continue to follow the direction of public health experts and government agencies.

We eagerly look forward to when we can safely get back to the classroom and when sport returns to our school communities.

Please see announcements below from WOSSAA and OFSAA.

Stay safe and healthy.

WOSSAA – Cancellation of Fall Championships

With the announcement last week of OFSAA cancelling all Fall Championships and Festivals, the WOSSAA Board of Directors have decided to cancel all WOSSAA Fall Championships. This decision follows the precedent set by the WOSSAA Board of Directors with the cancellation of the 2020 Spring Championships last school year.

No decisions have been made regarding the Winter/Spring Championships at this time.

OFSAA – Cancellation of Fall Championships

This decision is in alignment with the province’s Stage 3 reopening regulations. Those regulations apply a number of restrictions to sports and recreation activities that ultimately prohibit the possibility of OFSAA events.

Despite this disappointing news, we continue to recognize the vital role of sports in education, and whenever possible, encourage the engagement of students in sports and activity for the benefit of their physical and mental well-being. While this decision affects OFSAA events only, it does not preclude local interschool sports or intramurals, and the feasibility of those should be assessed by school boards and school athletic associations in consultation with local public health units.

If you wish to reference resources, the Ontario government has compiled several sport-specific safety and protocol documents from provincial and national sport organizations. These are available at https://www.ontario.ca/page/return-to-play. Further, the province’s Stage 3 reopening regulations contain rules concerning sports activities –https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/r20364.
